The Affliction

Lyrics by Ronny Criss                  Copyright 2005

Misery’s sittin’ next to me

Talking on a cell phone as loud as can be

And all are staring in our direction

So we shift and slide on the shuttle bus ride

If I hear that laugh one more time

You know I might be facing incarceration

Well it’s easier than driving on 94

Stuck between a Hummer and a Black Accord

Oh, you know I’m gonna be late for sure

Now if I pick myself up one more time

Maybe get lucky and fall in line

With a chance to change my direction

It’s an affliction born from pure conviction

Worry’s got me by the scruff of the neck

A choke hold I’ve come to expect

And it’s nothing new for this misplaced son

You learn to take the good with the bad

And situate yourself the best that you can

It’s the only way to get yourself home

And it’s easier than the thought of giving in

Lettin’ loose of the goose with the golden egg

Hey watch out what you say

Now if I pick myself up one more time

Maybe get lucky and fall in line

With a chance to change my direction

It’s an affliction born from pure conviction

Oh when the twilight turns to dark

And the road gets too faint to travel down

Some way you do what you can

To cut out a path to lead you along

And say “I’ve made it home”.

Misery’s sittin’ next to me

Talking on a cell phone as loud as can be
And all are staring in our direction
